We’re delighted to welcome Professor Michael J. Proulx to the Thomas Science Advisory and Innovation Board (SAIB). With his extensive knowledge and passion for shaping the future of work, Michael brings a powerful combination of expertise in psychology, neuroscience, and technology that will help Thomas continue to grow and innovate.
The Thomas Science Advisory and Innovation Board (SAIB) is made up of leading experts from a variety of fields. Together, they offer valuable insights and guidance on the latest developments in people science. Their advice plays a key role in helping Thomas enhance its talent assessment solutions, drive innovation, and ensure best practices as the world of work evolves.
Michael is currently a Professor in Psychology and Director of the Crossmodal Cognition Lab at the University of Bath. In addition, he co-founded the REVEAL Research Centre and is a co-investigator at CAMERA 2.0, a research centre focused on motion analysis and entertainment applications. He’s also affiliated with the Institute for the Augmented Human and serves as a Research Scientist at Meta’s Reality Labs Research. Michael’s academic journey began with a BSc in Psychology from Arizona State University, followed by an MA and PhD in Psychological and Brain Sciences from Johns Hopkins University.
Reflecting on his decision to join the SAIB, Michael shared: “Work defines so much of our lives. It’s often said, ‘choose a job you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life,’ but how to achieve that is far more complex. Science can help people discover what they love, assist companies in finding people who thrive in their roles, and create work environments where passion can flourish. I’m excited to advise on Thomas’ current practices, but even more eager to collaborate with the SAIB to develop fresh ideas and approaches to the future of work.”
Looking ahead, Michael is particularly focused on how technology is reshaping how we work and connect: “The workplace is becoming more global and increasingly reliant on technology. It’s crucial that work stays inclusive and accessible to all, and that AI is developed in ways that are accountable, responsible, and transparent.”
John Cooper, Chair of the SAIB, expressed his excitement about Michael’s appointment: “We’re thrilled to have Michael join the board. His multidisciplinary expertise and genuine enthusiasm for exploring the intersections of psychology, neuroscience, and technology are a perfect fit for our mission. We’re excited to see the insights and innovative ideas he’ll bring to the team.”
